Alhambra Preservation Group began the Heritage Home Award Program in 2008 as a public awareness-building vehicle to showcase historic homes throughout Alhambra in a manner that recognizes the efforts of their owners to maintain these architectural treasures and demonstrates the potential of so many of our city’s older homes to dignify — and even to increase the value of — the neighborhoods and properties that surround them.
Each Fall, we present awards to four local property owners who have made outstanding contributions to historic preservation in Alhambra. As part of this program, we present the Katherine Hildreth Memorial Award, on an occasional basis, in recognition of an extraordinary effort by the owners of an historic property to preserve an Alhambra landmark. Look for our lawn signs around town identifying each of our Heritage Home Award winners.
Through their efforts, these homeowners are helping to maintain real and tangible links to the people, events, and patterns of history that have shaped our community and our region. We hope that their example will inspire their neighbors, owners of other historical properties throughout Alhambra, and our local leaders and policy makers.
